Boni Khalwale Extols Former President Uhuru Kenyatta on His 62nd Birthday
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has expressed his admiration for retired President Uhuru Kenyatta on the occasion of his 62nd birthday.
In his statement, Khalwale acknowledged that despite their differing political affiliations during Kenyatta’s presidency, he continues to cherish their friendship.
“Former President Uhuru Kenyatta, Happy birthday to you! Hope you’re enjoying life in retirement. Although we went different ways during your presidency, I cherish our friendship. With nostalgia, I remember how I hosted you and William Ruto (then Minister for Agriculture) in my home in Malinya after I retained my seat as MP for Ikolomani, in the hotly contested by election of 2011,” he said on X.
The senator further emphasized that the ex-President has left two significant impressions that will always be memorable to him.
Khalwale pointed out that when Uhuru, who then held the positions of Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, allocated funds for the development of a vital road in his hometown.
He also mentioned that Uhuru provided financial assistance when he contested in the Ikolomani by-election in 2011.
Khalwale expressed his desire to invite the former head of state to his Malinya residence for a friendly gathering, should he find the opportunity.
“You left two indelible marks 1. As Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, u released funds for the construction of Sigalagala Butere Road. It’s now complete. 2. You supported me financially in that by-election campaign. Welcome to Malinya for a drink brother.”
Last year, Uhuru retired from his role as the President of Kenya after serving two terms.
Numerous political leaders have extended their well-wishes to the former president as he embraces retirement, and Kenyan citizens have also joined in expressing their good wishes.
There are reports that some politicians from the Mt Kenya region are considering organizing a celebration to mark one year since he left office.
However, the exact location of this event has not been disclosed by the organizers.
Former Jubilee secretary general Jeremiah Kioni firmly denied the existence of any such plans, stating to The Star that while Uhuru continues to hold the position of Jubilee party leader, they have not yet made any arrangements for a birthday celebration.
