‘Daniel Moi Was Tough, But We Finished Him’ – Raila warns Ruto
Raila Odinga, the leader of Azimio La Umoja, has warned President William Ruto about the potential risk of leaning towards an authoritarian style of governance.
In Bungoma, Raila Odinga remarked that the late Daniel Moi had exercised significant power to the detriment of his constituents, but ultimately faced a check on his authority.
Odinga emphasized that Kenyans would not passively observe if Ruto followed a similar path.
Speaking at the funeral of the late Lawrence Sifuna in Bungoma County, the ODM leader cautioned President Ruto that the Kenyan people will not accept any authoritarian tendencies from the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition.
Raila expressed concern that Ruto’s recent statements suggest dictatorial behavior, which is not acceptable.
Raila also criticized Ruto’s recent remarks, emphasizing that Kenyans have both the right and responsibility to prevent the president from implementing punitive projects.
Raila said, “Mtu akisemama mimi ni unstoppable, hakuna mtu anaeza kunisimamisha, yeye ni nani? Nyayo alisema yeye alikua unstoppable, tulimsimamisha. Kama tuliweza kumstopisha Nyayo wewe ni nani? Wakenya watakustopisha.”
Loosely translates to:
“If somebody claims to be unstoppable, who does he think he is? Moi said he was unstoppable, yet we managed to halt his progress. If we could successfully impede Nyayo, who do you believe you are? Kenya will put a stop on you.”
