EACC Raises Concerns on Ruto’s US Ambassadorial Nominee
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has expressed reservations regarding the suitability of David Kiplagat Kerich for the Ambassadorial post in Washington DC, USA.
In a recommendation presented to the National Assembly Committee on Defence, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations, the commission noted an ongoing investigation against Kiplagat.
Chairing the Committee, Nelson Koech, Member of Parliament for Belgut, permitted the Nominee to provide his submissions despite these concerns.
During the vetting process, lawmakers acknowledged the significance of the USA as a strategic partner, particularly through the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), which serves as Kenya’s largest export market.
Kiplagat stated that he intends to capitalize on the trade agreement to bolster export volumes. He remarked that there is potential to educate farmers and traders about AGOA and to utilize the export processing zone to boost the apparel sector.
The Committee also conducted vetting sessions for Hon. Halima Yussuf Mucheke, the nominee for The Hague, Netherlands, and Ms. Jessica Muthoni Gakinya, the ambassadorial nominee for the Kingdom of Morocco.
