Edwin Sifuna Says He Won’t Attend William Ruto’s State of Nation Address
Senator Edwina Sifuna has opted out of attending President William Ruto’s State of the Nation address on Thursday, November 9.
Sifuna stated that he found nothing motivating in the president’s speech, pointing to the country’s widespread dire circumstances.
The legislator further clarified that he wouldn’t sit through what he perceived as Ruto’s continual dishonesty.
Why Edwin Sifuna will skip Ruto’s crucial address
He mentioned that his choice to avoid the Parliament premises during the speech was a display of reverence for the esteemed institution.
The outspoken legislator, holding the position of secretary general in the ODM party led by Raila Odinga, highlighted that Ruto had failed to fulfill his earlier statements.
Therefore, sitting in the assembly alongside fellow lawmakers to hear Ruto would serve no purpose.
“The standing orders require that the head of state in an address to parliament be heard in silence. Two problems; Ruto cannot be trusted to paint the true picture of the State of the Nation which as you know is dire, and I cannot sit quietly listening to lies.
For these reasons and out of respect for the institution of Parliament I shall not attend the state of the nation address,” he said.
