Eugene Wamalwa Lectures Didmus Barasa at Funeral

A visit to a funeral in the constituency brought into sharp focus the political differences that existed between DAP-K leader Eugen Wamalwa and Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa.

Barasa lambasted Eugene, whom he accused of neglecting the interests of Western Kenya despite his position in government, when he was given the opportunity to address the mourners.

In multiple cases, the lawmaker noted that Eugene’s tenure as cabinet secretary did not benefit the region.

Barasa highlighted the fact that Eugene, in his capacity as the CS for Legal and Justice Affairs, was unable to avert the dismissal of former deputy justice Nancy Barasa.

“He has been a CS for over 20 years. When in charge of legal affairs, he could not save Nancy Barasa after she was sacked for assaulting a female guard,” started Barasa.

Additionally, despite the former CS’s tenure at the Water and Sanitation Ministry, the outspoken lawmaker asserted that water continued to be an issue in Western Kenya.

Eugene criticised Barasa in his rebuttal for what he perceived to be an absence of courtesy and decorum.

Although the former Defence CS regarded himself as the political senior of the MP, he advised Barasa to maintain integrity in his public declarations.

“I am like Didmus Barasa’s political father. As much as I came to condole with the bereaved family, I would like to advise Barasa to be respectful,” said Eugene.

He proceeded to caution the lawmaker against spreading rumours about the governor of Trans Nzoia, George Natembeya.

Barasa has sustained criticisms of Natembeya for some time, at one point alleging that he disregarded Moses Wetang’ula, the speaker of the National Assembly.
