Gachagua Blames JKIA Backup Generator Failure on Uhuru Kenyatta’s Government
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua attributed the malfunction of the backup generator at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to the administration of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Gachagua claimed that the generator purchased during Kenyatta’s regime was counterfeit.
Kenyans have held Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen responsible for the backup generator’s inability to activate during national blackouts impacting the airport.
On multiple occasions, leaders, including Nandi Senator Kiprotich Cherargei, have urged for the resignation of Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen due to the ongoing generator issue.
Recently, both Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki and Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga advocated for the dismissal of Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir and Murkomen in relation to the matter.
Addressing the public in Baringo on Thursday, December 14, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who had just purchased goats valued at over KSh 15 million with President William Ruto, came to the defense of Kipchumba Murkomen amid calls for his dismissal.
Gachagua asserted that Murkomen should not be held responsible for the generator failure at JKIA, stating that Murkomen was not the Transport Cabinet Secretary when the generator was procured.
He argued that the purchase took place during the previous administration under Uhuru Kenyatta.
“Our transport CS is doing well. I have seen some people calling for his resignation because the generator at JKIA was not working. It was not him who bought it. The generator, which is fake, was bought by the former regime.
“The generator fails whenever it is turned on. I want Kipchumba to buy another generator and forget about the former regime’s generator. We found a lot of things in a bad state, and they now want to put that burden on Kipchumba, yet it is the former regime leaders who spent a lot of money on a fake generator that cannot sustain the airport,” Gachagua claimed.
Gachagua urged Murkomen to prioritize acquiring a new generator and concentrate on developing a modern airport that would elevate Kenya’s aviation sector’s standing on the global stage.

Gachagua emphasized that Deputy President Ruto had made significant strides in revitalizing the country’s economy and encouraged Kenyans to exercise patience.
He likened the state of the nation’s economy to a patient in the Intensive Care Unit, asserting that it needed to recover gradually before being fully discharged.
According to Gachagua, this gradual progress aligned with the principles upheld by the Kenya Kwanza movement.
Gachagua had previously stated that Kenya Kwanza faced the challenge of addressing a 10-year economic crisis and emphasized that it couldn’t be resolved in just two years.
