On Thursday, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua praised Youths and Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ababu Namwamba for his ongoing efforts to enhance the country’s sports industry.

Addressing a crowd at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) during the launching of the 2024 World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally, Gachagua praised President William Ruto for appointing Ababu, saying it was the one appointment Ruto got right.

The DP also praised the Principal Secretaries (PSs) who collaborate with CS Namwamba on their ongoing efforts to boost the country’s sports industry.

“I want to say from the bottom of my heart that if there is one appointment that my boss President William Ruto got right spot on, it is the one for Ababu Namwamba as a CS for Youth and sports and in addition our two PSs who have been hardworking,” Gachagua said.

Earlier, President William Ruto launched off the three-day rally at Loldia Ranch in Ndulele Conservancy, Naivasha.

Speaking during the flagging, Ruto encouraged Kenyans to attend in large numbers and enjoy the event, which he termed as a special Easter holiday gift for families.

“This is truly a special Easter holiday gift to millions of families to bond over a thrilling spectacle. You really can’t find a rally as tough, compelling, beautiful and rewarding as the one in Kenya,” Ruto said.

He also asked CS Namwamba and other event organisers to extend the days to five, as requested by the drivers.

Ruto also thanked the FIA for returning the race to Kenya.

“Ababu Namwamba and your team, FIA and WRC, I think it is time you consider the request of our rally drivers,” Ruto said.
