‘Go Live In Haiti – a puppet of foreigners’ – Kabando Wa Kabando Hit Out at President Ruto
Former Mukurweini legislator, Kabando Wa Kabando, has launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto regarding the government’s decision to send police officers to Haiti.
Kabando questioned the urgency of deploying Kenyan security forces to Haiti while citizens in various regions of Kenya continue to face threats from banditry and insecurity.
Taking to social media platform X, formerly Twitter, Kabando accused the president of prioritizing personal gains over the safety of Kenyan citizens.
“Our president is a puppet of foreign interests. Ruto’s pursuit of financial benefits from undisclosed sources led to the deployment of our police officers to Haiti, disregarding the security needs of Kenyans in regions like Baringo, Samburu, and Lamu. Ruto, perhaps you should relocate to Haiti!” Kabando’s tweet directed at the president read.
Kabando’s remarks followed the formalization of the deployment agreement between Kenya and Haiti, where 1,000 police officers are set to be dispatched to the North American nation.
The agreement was signed by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki and his Haitian counterpart at State House, with President Ruto and Haiti Prime Minister Ariel Henry in attendance.
In response to the signed agreement, Ruto expressed Kenya’s commitment to supporting the multinational mission in Haiti, emphasizing its significance for global peace.
However, Kabando’s criticism highlights concerns over the government’s priorities and allocation of resources, particularly in addressing domestic security challenges.
Notably, in January, the High Court had intervened to halt the deployment of Kenyan officers to Haiti, raising further questions about the decision-making process and the considerations involved.
