JKIA Fracas: Nigerian Resists Deportation After Complaining To Ruto
Nigerian businessman James Adepoju was apprehended by police officers after resisting deportation at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
Allegations against him include involvement in cybercrimes and illegal presence in Kenya, which he vehemently denies.
Adepoju asserts that he was unlawfully arrested in March and subjected to torture by immigration authorities, further claiming monetary theft from his account.
On Sunday, despite authorities’ efforts to deport him, Adepoju caused a disruption at JKIA by refusing to board the plane.
Consequently, police intervened, leading to his arrest for causing disturbance at the airport.
Immigration officials maintain that Adepoju’s presence in Kenya is illegal, citing his alleged involvement in cyber fraud as grounds for deportation.
Officials highlight Adepoju’s association with other illegal immigrants and drug traffickers who evade detection upon reentry into the country.
These individuals have reportedly engaged in credit card fraud, drug distribution, and possession of counterfeit documents.
Adepoju is scheduled to appear in court in anticipation of his impending deportation, possibly facing additional charges.
His grievances, voiced in March, revolved around alleged harassment by immigration officers colluding with Nigerian counterparts, purportedly due to his investments in Kenya.
He disclosed being detained inhumane conditions at various police facilities, including Nyayo House basement.
According to Adepoju, he had applied for a visa extension, rendering deportation unnecessary.
He appeals to President William Ruto for intervention, advocating for the protection of law-abiding foreign nationals residing in Kenya.
