Jubilee party politician shot dead after being ambushed by the gunmen

Paul Leshimpiro, the Member of County Assembly for Angata Nanyekie in Samburu County, has died.

According to police reports, the MCA was shot dead by suspected bandits at Soit Pus on the Maralal-Baragoi Highway on Sunday morning, February 25, 2024.

Confirming the incident, Samburu County Police Chief Thomas Ototo said the deceased was on his way home when he was ambushed by gunmen.

At the time of the incident, the Jubilee party MCA was with his driver, who escaped unharmed.

Leshimpiro was one of the Samburu region’s outspoken leaders who has led the charge in calling for decisive action against the banditry threat.

Last month, the ward representative urged President William Ruto to take action and put an end to the illegal activities that have claimed numerous lives in recent years.

The MCA spoke after gunmen stormed a National Police Reservist (NPR) burial ceremony and opened fire on the mourners, killing one on the spot.

The bandits also killed the NPR officer, who was being laid to rest.

“This morning, we were trying to call the security personnel because there was an issue of another killing. A second person is dying today while we are burying another one,” Leshimpiro said.

“Mr. President, you don’t have to wait any further; you need to take action. Don’t suggest to us that you are less powerful than a bandit,” he lamented.
