Kalonzo Heads to Coast Region as He Intensifies Azimio Captain Bid
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has increased his public appearances in an effort to win over the opposition as the best choice ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Azimio principle has scheduled a two-day back-to-back campaign in Kwale, following similar engagements in Kisii, Nyamira, and Migori counties.
“The Wiper leader Dr Kalonzo Musyoka will tour the Coastal region where he will be in Lamu County from Saturday to Sunday,” Wiper head of Communications Paloma Gatabaki said in a dispatch to newsrooms.
On Saturday, the Azimio co-principal will visit Kwale, where he will inaugurate Wiper offices and address rallies, among other activities.
According to the timetable shared with the media, the Wiper boss will preside over the party’s Kinondo office launch at 10 a.m.
He will next do a meet-and-greet tour in Msambweni before speaking at a rally in Lunga Lunga.
The first day of Kalonzo’s festivities will conclude with a tour of Mivumboni, where he will address another crowd.
On Sunday, the former vice president will begin the day with a church service at Redeemed Gospel Church in Diani, Lamu county.
He will later attend a crusade at the Ukunda Farmers Stadium to conclude his trip of the coastal region.
Kalonzo has recently increased his public engagements across the country, four years before the general election.
The increased efforts come at a time when the Wiper leader is challenging President William Ruto to a 2027 duel. He has promised that he will serve as President for one term.
In Kenya’s post-independence history, every president has served at least two terms.
During a burial in Kyamuthei, Makueni, the Wiper leader accused the Kenya Kwanza government of purchasing Kenyans’ loyalty.
“Kenya is back to the harambee times against Chapter Six of the Constitution,” Kalonzo said.
Kalonzo has already been criticised for campaigning solely in his Eastern region while claiming to represent the entire country.
“You know Wiper NEC (national executive council) gave him the greenlight to start moving across the country, that is exactly what he is doing and expect more such engagements,” Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo told the Star.
“He will be in all the 47 counties to give his alternative agenda to the people of Kenya.”
The former Vice President, who has given up his bid for 15 years, believes that 2027 is his greatest chance to be the joint Azimio candidate.
Kalonzo served as Raila’s running partner twice, in 2013 and 2017, and was key in the ODM leader’s 2022 presidential campaign.
Raila has recently heaped admiration on the Wiper leader, praising him as a mature politician who deserves to be elected.
