Kalonzo, Kioni, Miguna Behind ‘Ruto Must Go’ Slogan…Not Gen Zs – CS Duale
Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has sparked a new political debate by asserting that the ‘Ruto must go!’ slogan, a chant that has recently reverberated through anti-government demonstrations, did not originate from the youth-driven Generation Z but rather from seasoned opposition figures.
Speaking on Citizen TV’s JKLive show on Wednesday, Duale attributed the creation of the slogan to prominent opposition leaders, singling out Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, and the outspoken lawyer Miguna Miguna.
“The ‘Ruto must go’ slogan is not a Gen Z slogan… it is Kalonzo Musyoka, it is Kioni, it is Miguna. It is a traditional cabal group of people who are not Gen Zs, who have not recovered and who cannot wait for 2027,” Duale stated emphatically.
He went on to explain that these figures have been relentless in their opposition to President William Ruto’s leadership, using the slogan as a tool to undermine his presidency and fuel dissent.
According to Duale, these opposition leaders are strategically positioning themselves to take advantage of any potential leadership void, particularly speculating that Raila Odinga, the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya chief, might assume the African Union Commission Chairperson position.
This, Duale suggests, would create an opportunity for them to gain political leverage. “They even feel that since Baba is going to AU, they don’t have a chance in 2027 and in their wildest dreams, they feel there is a shortcut to change William Ruto. The Constitution 2010 does not envisage that, you cannot even tell an MCA that he must go,” Duale remarked.
The Defence CS also hinted at a broader conspiracy, indicating that the government is in the process of compiling a list of influential politicians, businessmen, and NGOs believed to be orchestrating violence during the protests.
“One of the media houses said that the internal security system in our country has already profiled individuals; certain politicians, businessmen, and NGOs. In 10 days or two weeks, they will be arraigned in court. We will not allow the deaths that took place to reoccur,” Duale noted.
Duale’s revelations come amid ongoing anti-government demonstrations that have seen youth protestors chanting slogans like ‘Reject Finance Bill 2024’ and ‘Occupy Parliament’ before adopting the more pointed ‘Ruto must go!’ This shift in narrative has raised questions about the underlying forces driving these protests and the real motivations of those leading the charge.
As the nation awaits the promised government list and potential legal actions against the alleged instigators, the political climate remains tense.
Duale’s statements have added fuel to an already blazing fire, intensifying the scrutiny on opposition figures and their role in the current political unrest.
