Kenya Kwanza Plotting Exclusive Selection of IEBC Commissioners – Azimio
The Kenya Kwanza administration has been accused by Azimio leaders of conspiring to select commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in an exclusive manner.
Kalonzo Musyoka, leader of the Wiper party, stated on Sunday in Kwale County that the government is preparing to manipulate the 2027 General Election in light of the state’s sponsorship of a court petition that halted the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report’s implementation.
Kalonzo has now urged President William Ruto and Azimio leader Raila Odinga to intervene immediately and clear the way forward.
Kalonzo stated that there were plans to halt the report despite the ongoing discussions in Bomas.
According to him, the report was still the responsibility of the legislature; however, a petitioner was sponsored by the Kenya Kwanza team in order to file the petition at Kiambu Court.
DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa stated that he did not approve the report because the Kenya Kwanza team rejected the concerns they raised, including the cost of living.
“It is after the Bomas talks we have seen increase of tax on everything. That is why they did not want the issues of cost of living included in the report,” he said.
Additionally, the two individuals have criticised the government for denying advertisements to media outlets, claiming it is an attempt to stifle press freedom.
The leaders of Azimio have also intervened in the ongoing distribution of forged fertiliser, urging agriculture CS Mithika Linturi to resign.
