Khalwale Reveals 3 Key Figures Ruto Needs to End Doctors’ Strike
Senator Boni Khalwale has urged President William Ruto to invite him to State House for discussions on the ongoing doctors’ strike.
Khalwale, in a statement on Monday, proposed three other individuals to join him, emphasizing their expertise in the health sector.
He expressed concern over the potential catastrophe posed by the ongoing strike and stressed the need for immediate resolution.
Khalwale highlighted Seme MP Dr. James Nyikal, former director of Medical Services, as a valuable participant in the meeting, recalling Nyikal’s role as his lecturer at the University of Nairobi.
Additionally, Khalwale recommended Endebess Constituency MP Robert Pukose, a former medical superintendent, and Health Director General Dr. Patrick Amoth as individuals capable of contributing insightful ideas to address the strike.
He stated, “I am persuaded that if State House invites us for a brainstorming session accompanied by our combined medico-political experience, we will, in absolute good faith, inform the way forward.”
Amid the ongoing health sector crisis, residents living along the border have turned to hospitals in neighboring Tanzania and Uganda for medical care.
A report released in March revealed a significant increase in the number of Kenyan patients admitted in Rombo and Longido, both located in Tanzania.
Francis Atwoli, the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) boss, pledged to spearhead efforts to end the prolonged strike.
He emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between the government and doctors to reach a Return to Work Formula.
The ongoing doctors’ strike has led to significant losses on both sides, with numerous deaths reported due to the lack of medical personnel in hospitals nationwide.
Consequently, Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga issued a directive on Monday to halt salary payments for striking doctors within his county.
