Little known details of Moi’s youngest daughter who has died at 60 years old

Former President Daniel Moi’s daughter June Chebet Moi passed away at the age of 60 years.

The family confirmed her death on Thursday, April 11, 2024, stating, “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing on of our beloved June Chebet Moi this morning. At this time of grief, we request your prayers and privacy as the family comes to terms with the death of our sister.”

June, the youngest among the Moi siblings, was adopted by the former president and considered part of the family.

She was also a niece to his estranged wife, the late Lena Moi. According to Moi’s biography, ‘The Making of an African Statesman’ by British author Andrew Morton, only two of his children, June and Gideon Moi, provided moral support during his presidency.

June attended Nairobi Primary, Kenya High School, and pursued her higher education in Canada.

She actively participated in her father’s political campaigns in 1992 and 1997 before focusing on her land, property agency, and development businesses.

Additionally, she was a beneficiary of her father’s estate, receiving Sh100 million along with her sisters Jenifer Chemutai Moi and Doris Chekorir Moi.

In Moi’s will, he left a 931-hectare tract of land to the Trustees of Kabarak University for the benefit of his five sons: Jonathan Kipkemboi Moi, Raymond Moi, John Mark Moi, Philip Moi, and Gideon Moi. Each son received an equal share to utilize during their lifetime, along with their children.

The execution of Moi’s will is being overseen by his lawyer, Zehrabanu Janmohamed, who is also a non-executive director of Standard Group Plc.

Zehrabanu, an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a Barrister at Lincolns Inn (UK), brings over twenty years of legal professional experience to the task.

She currently works as an advocate with Archer & Wilcock Advocates and serves on various committees within the Company, including Finance, Audit, Human Resources, and Remuneration.
