Moses Kuria Wades Into Gachagua & Ndindi Nyoro Kingpin Battle, Reveals Who is Best Suited For That Role
On Sunday, January 21, Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria joined the ongoing discussion about the key political figure in the Mt Kenya region, becoming the most recent politician from that area to express his views.
Over the past fortnight, politicians from the region have divided their support between Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Ndindi Nyoro, the Member of Parliament for Kiharu, fueling a spirited debate among the influential political figures in the vote-rich region.
Moses Kuria asserted that he was the most suitable candidate to take on a leadership role in the region, emphasizing his broader national perspective.
Employing a metaphor related to swimming, he argued that one cannot be hailed as an Olympic swimming champion merely for swimming in a bathtub.
“Oh ye angling for regional supremacy, come and face me in the open Indian Ocean that is the great Republic of Kenya,” he dared other leaders.
Kuria expressed his views a day following Gachagua’s call for politicians in the region to refrain from aligning with specific factions and instead focus on fostering unity within Mt Kenya.
“Our relevance in national leadership lies in our unity. We know what disunity and divisive politics did us in the 1992 and 1997 elections,” he stated.
He claimed that individuals advocating for various leaders as potential kingship contenders were aiming to sow division and conquer the region.
Regarding concerns about the potential threat to his position as the most senior politician in the region, he commented, “Nobody is plotting to replace anyone else. These young men should calm down.”
Legislators from Mt Kenya, including Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu and Gatanga MP Edward Muriu, have urged President William Ruto to select Ndindi Nyoro as the favored running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
“We will request Ruto to choose a young person from Murang’a who is Ndindi Nyoro; Gachagua has lost his ground, treating people disrespectfully, including elected leaders,” the parliamentarians stated.
Even though Ndindi Nyoro has not formally announced his candidacy for the Deputy President position against Gachagua, he has chosen not to distance himself from the group led by Nyutu.
