MP Salasya Breaks Silence Over Arrest
On Saturday, Peter Salasya, the Member of Parliament for Mumias East, spoke out after being apprehended for assaulting a fellow politician.
Expressing his discontent with the arrest, Salasya questioned the justification behind it and raised concerns about the lack of arrests for those who have attacked him in the past, despite him frequently finding himself targeted when making similar political moves.
“This is the fourth time this vehicle has been stoned and me being attacked but no single individual has ever been arrested and questioned why …when God is still on my side,” Salasya lamented.
“I will continue to forgive them 70×70 times,” he added.
Taking to his social media platforms, Salasya posted a picture of his Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, showcasing a shattered rear windshield, alleging that the damage was caused by assailants sent to assault him.
Describing his experience during a public gathering, the beleaguered Member of Parliament recounted being subjected to harsh treatment by the police, highlighting that he was forced to sleep on a bare floor without a mattress or blanket.
“Am currently on the ground, though I was made to sleep inside a cell without anything, no mattress no blanket no nothing,” he stated.
Last Friday, the lawmaker was apprehended and held at the Shianda Police Station for assaulting Peter Walunya, the Member of County Assembly for Malaha, during a funeral in Kakamega.
Salasya, given an opportunity to speak and offer condolences to the bereaved family, spotted Walunya attempting to criticize him for what was claimed to be a lack of decorum in his addresses to mourners.
Upset by the confrontation, the enraged legislator verbally confronted the MCA and, in full view of cameras, proceeded to slap him.
The Member of Parliament faced charges of assaulting and causing actual bodily harm, as well as creating a disturbance in a manner that violated section 95 (1) of the penal code.
Subsequently, he was granted release on a KSh50,000 cash bail but is required to appear in court on Monday, January 15.
