MP Salasya to face assault charges for slapping MCA
Mumias East Member of Parliament, Peter Salasya, is expected to face assault charges for allegedly slapping a Member of County Assembly during a funeral in Kakamega.
Salasya was released on a Sh50,000 cash bail until his scheduled court appearance on Tuesday.
Additionally, his two bodyguards were arrested and disarmed for firing shots into the air during the altercation at the funeral. The MP will also be charged with causing a disturbance.
The incident unfolded when Malaha/Isongo Ward MCA Peter Walunya Indimuli invited Salasya to the podium, urging him to maintain decorum in his speech.
According to the ward representative, Salasya rudely silenced him, leading to unrest among the mourners.
In a viral video, moments after taking the podium for the first time, Salasya is seen asking the MCA to sit down and quickly moves to physically confront him.
Police from Shianda police station intervened to restore order at the funeral. Salasya has been under scrutiny for various incidents, including multiple arrests the previous year.
