Mudavadi Asks Kenyan Politicians to Cease Careless Talks on Raila’s AU Bid

Musalia Mudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs, has urged leaders to put an end to irresponsible discourse about Raila Odinga’s quest for African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson.

During a thanksgiving service at Dominion Chapel Kimuka in Kajiado County on Sunday, March 24, Mudavadi stated that lawmakers from the opposition and the Kenya Kwanza Alliance might endanger Raila’s prospects of regaining the seat.

Mudavadi stressed that Raila’s bid is in the national interest and should be supported by all Kenyans, regardless of political affiliations.

He urged legislators to take Raila’s campaign for the AU seat seriously and quit making unnecessary statements that could jeopardise the country’s interests.

“Please let us take this issue of the African Union Commission chairmanship more seriously than we are taking it. It is in our national interest. That is my plea to you, and I hope what I have said will resonate with all reasonable men and women in this country so that we can focus and get our act together.

Be careful (about Raila’s AUC chairmanship bid) because what you say may undermine our national interest,” Mudavadi said.

Mudavadi, who has been running diplomacy shuttles to woo support for Raila, stated that the government believed in Raila’s leadership, which is why his name was put forward for the AUC position.

“Raila fits the bill to take up the seat. He has strong Pan-African credentials as he has seen it all in politics and shown the capacity to reconcile that can be of value to the African Union,” he added.
