Nigeria High Commission Issues Alert for Nigerians in Kenya Following the Murder Incident in Roysambu

The Nigeria High Commission (NHC) has cautioned its citizens residing in Kenya to stay alert and minimize unnecessary travel in the wake of a homicide case in Roysambu, where one of its nationals is suspected to be involved.

An official from the Commission informed Politics254 that the advisory was issued to alleviate the heightened tension arising from the tragic death of Rita Waeni Muendo, a 20-year-old student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Arts and Technology (JKUAT).

Additionally, Nigerian citizens were encouraged to maintain composure and uphold law-abiding behavior during this period.

“Nigerians are advised to be vigilant and to avoid unnecessary movements even as investigations are ongoing and formal communication from the host law enforcement authorities are awaited,” the statement read in part.

The Commission also issued a caution to Kenyans, advising them to refrain from spreading misinformation about Nigerians on online platforms. It emphasized the importance of sharing only credible and accurate information.

“Furthermore, we wish to implore well-meaning members of the public to desist from disinformation and to refer all enquiries to appropriate channels to ascertain accurate information.”

The High Commission issued a stern warning to online users, cautioning against the propagation of false information. It affirmed that any dissemination of inaccurate details would face appropriate legal consequences.

“The High Commission is also taking proper note of the channels through which such disinformation is being shared and would like to assure that necessary action, within the scope of international law and extant legal provisions of the host authorities, will be invoked as appropriate.”

Muendo’s murder has garnered widespread attention across the nation, prompting calls from observers for the police to ensure justice for the victim’s family and apprehend the perpetrators.

The student’s dismembered body was discovered this past Sunday in a Roysambu apartment after a night out with a suspect. The individual, captured on CCTV footage, was seen wearing a cap and glasses.

The CCTV footage showed the suspect picking up a key from a shopkeeper and quickly departing.

Subsequently, a man bearing a striking resemblance to the individual in the footage was apprehended at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) after concerned members of the public raised an alarm.
