Nigerian Businessman Appeals to Ruto After Alleged Torture Incident at Nyayo House
James Adepoju, a Nigerian businessman with multiple Kenyan businesses, has accused Immigration officials of assaulting, harassing, and robbery at Nyayo House.
Adepoju claimed he was blackmailed by officers demanding money and threatened deportation if he did not comply.
However, his Visa was extended for another two months, indicating no reason for deportation.
Adepoju appealed to President William Ruto for justice and accountability.
“God loves you and you are our leader, please for the sake of humanity and the generations to come, please kindly come through,” he stated.
Unarmed officers apprehended Nigerian businessman Adepoju and forcibly demolished his residence in the absence of a search warrant.
According to his account, immigration officials assaulted him, seized his phone and passports, and compelled him to transmit funds.
He was allegedly tormented in the dungeon of Nyayo House by three men and four uniformed officers while handcuffed and transported there.
“They transported me at night with a private van and took me to an undisclosed police station. An order was issued for me not to be given food or water until I was ready to cooperate,” he stated.
When endeavouring to contact the Nigerian Embassy, Adepoju was allegedly taken to an unsanitary and inhumane police station.
A cooperation request was ultimately extended to him in relation to an official who was suspected of collaborating with Kenyan law enforcement to intimidate and plunder Nigerians in Kenya.
“No charges but I am tortured and forced to open my active ticket to Nigeria. Money moving out of my account without my notice,” he lamented.
Additionally, Adepoju claimed that he was coerced by the officers into purchasing a ticket that was intended to facilitate his deportation. This was to his displeasure, as an officer had been designated to represent him in court.
As he narrated, he was returned his phone at the airport; however, it was devoid of a SIM card.
He was fortunate to encounter a United Nations employee at the airport who was able to assist him in renewing his queue. He failed to board the aircraft and is presently residing at an unspecified location within Kenya.
He disclosed his plight while pleading with President Ruto and human rights activists for assistance, adding that he owns properties worth millions of dollars in Kenya.
“Mr. Presient, His Excellency, a father figure and a man with a big heart. My name is Adepoju Dolapo James, a human being born by humans in Lagos, Nigeria and a citizen of this earth and a law-abiding citizen of any country I have visited including Kenya,” he stated.
