‘ODM will scatter with Joho as the leader’ – Robert Alai

Robert Alai, a Member of County Assembly (MCA) from Kileleshwa, asserts that Ali Hassan Joho, the former Governor of Mombasa, is not capable of leading the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

Alai stated that the former governor has diminished the Orange party’s sway in the coastal region, where he has served as the party’s representative.

“Governor Joho can’t lead ODM. He reduced the influence of ODM main support base in Mombasa. ODM will scatter with Joho as the leader,” Alai stated.

ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga recently suggested that Joho and Deputy Party Leader Wycliffe Oparanya could take over the party’s leadership if he decides to retire from local politics.

If Raila secures the African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson, he has backed the two politicians to lead the opposition party.

Raila, speaking on Thursday, March 7, 2024, expressed that his departure from domestic politics should not lead to the demise of the opposition party, which has been in existence for almost two decades.

“I’m here with Governors (Wycliffe) Oparanya and Ali Hassan Joho. They will come together (to lead ODM). A party with a strong foundation cannot crumble just because one person has left. I am confident that these (two) will continue driving the party agenda even though I’ll be in Addis Ababa. If they want advice, I am ready. ODM will remain intact,” Raila stated.
