Parliament Gives New Directives to Chiloba 26 Other Ruto’s Nominees
The National Assembly has published criteria for the screening of 27 freshly appointed ambassadorial nominees, with the latter receiving two directions.
In a notice dated March 23, the NA required the 27 nominees to collect various clearance certifications from government agencies and then provide them to the committee tasked with conducting the vetting.
Former CS Director General Ezra Chiloba and his team were asked to produce clearance letters and certificates from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to the Committee on Defence, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations.
Additional clearance letters and certificates are necessary from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), and the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
Chiloba and the other 27 nominees were also required to provide clearance documents from the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties.
“It is further notified that the nominees are required to appear for the approval hearings with their original identity cards, academic and professional certificates and other relevant testimonials,” read the notice in part.
Kenyans who have reservations about the 27 applicants’ qualifications, on the other hand, have been asked to provide the committee with relevant documents, which will be examined throughout the vetting process.
“In compliance with Article 118(1)(b) of the Constitution and section 6(9) of the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act, 2011, the Clerk of the National Assembly hereby invites members of the public to submit any representations they may have, by way of written statements on oath (affidavits) with supporting evidence contesting the suitability of the nominees for appointment as high commissioners, ambassadors and diplomatic and consular representatives.
“The memoranda may be forwarded to the Clerk of the National Assembly, P.O. Box 41842-00100, Nairobi; hand-delivered to the Office of the Clerk, Main Parliament Buildings, Nairobi; or emailed to cna@parliament.go.ke to be received on or before Tuesday, 2nd April 2024 by 5.00 pm,” read the notice in part.
Chiloba is one of the latest ambassadorial nominations. The former CA was named Consul General of the Republic of Kenya in Los Angeles, United States.
Other prominent nominees included former Kisumu Senator Fred Outa (Egypt), former Vice Chief of Defence Lieutenant General Jonah Mwangi (Iran), and former Kenya Army Commander Lieutenant General Peter Njiru as Kenya’s High Commissioner (Pakistan).
