Peter Salasya announces he will be eying a gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election
Member of Parliament for Mumias East, Peter Salasya, revealed his intention to run for a gubernatorial position in the upcoming 2027 General Election.
Making the announcement on social media last Sunday, the lawmaker affirmed that his ambitious choice is definitive, and he will be a candidate in the forthcoming elections.
“It’s now official I will be vying for Governor,” he wrote.
During the 2022 General Election, Peter Salasya secured victory in the parliamentary race as a candidate for the Democratic Action Party Kenya (DAP-K), a political party led by former Defense Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa.
Despite being a first-time Member of Parliament, Salasya has become embroiled in several controversies, drawing criticism for his behavior in the public sphere.
On January 13, he was arrested on charges of assaulting Peter Indimuli, the Malaha-Isongo-Makunga MCA, during a funeral in Kakamega County.
The charges against Salasya include assault, causing physical harm, and engaging in behavior that could disturb the peace. He was, however, released on Ksh.50,000 bail following his arrest.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has summoned Salasya to provide a statement regarding the incident.
