Mithika Linturi, the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development, has asserted that the nation is poised for an abundant harvest in the upcoming year, attributing it to the favorable short rains and the government’s initiatives to provide subsidized agricultural inputs.

Addressing attendees at a thanksgiving event held at Amwamba Primary School in Akachiu Ward, Igembe South Constituency, Meru County, Linturi conveyed confidence that the decreased food prices will lead to a substantial reduction in the cost of living for a majority of Kenyan citizens.

Linturi has predicted a decline in maize meal prices to fall below the Ksh.100 threshold in early 2024.

He mentioned that as of now, maize meal is being sold at Ksh.130 for a 2kg packet. Additionally, he highlighted that the average price of maize flour is currently Ksh.155.

“Kenya is moving in the right direction. Anyone telling you otherwise mwambie ni Uongo Because I’m there I’m telling you the truth. Ile kelele kidogo Mnaskia ya Economy itaisha. Juzi nlitembea Nairobi n I can confirm nliona Unga imeshuka hadi 130. Sahii Nasema imefika 119,” Linturi said.

The event was attended by local MPs, members of county assembly, and church leaders among other leaders.
