Raila Odinga Hints at Contesting for Presidency in 2027 Even If He Wins AU Seat
Raila Odinga, the leader of the One Kenya Coalition Party, has hinted again that he will run for president in the 2027 election.
Speaking in Kisii on Thursday, February 29, Raila denied that his bid for African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson will prevent him from running for president in 2027.
The ODM leader claims that nothing will prevent him from resigning from his AUC seat and focusing solely on a sixth presidential run.
According to the former prime minister, if Kenyans want him on the ballot, he will be forced to accept their wishes.
“If Kenyans will need me for any other job, I’ll be available, I will take a break from the AU and come,” Raila said.
Speaking in Homa Bay on Wednesday, February 29, the opposition leader reassured his supporters that assuming the AUC chairmanship would not remove him from Kenyan politics.
Raila informed his troops that the AU office was a two-hour flight from Nairobi. Raila’s plan to influence Kenyan politics if he gets a job with the African Union.
He noted that Addis Abeba, Ethiopia, was only two hours from Kenya, allowing him to easily travel between the two countries and physically coordinate both Kenyan and African affairs.
