Raila Odinga Responds after Calls to Endorse Kalonzo
ODM leader Raila Odinga has downplayed requests to publicly support Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka as a presidential candidate in the 2027 elections.
At a burial service held in Kitui county on Saturday, February 10, Raila mentioned that he is open to endorsing the Wiper Party leader for the presidency without any reservations.
As per the ODM leader’s remarks, Kalonzo possesses all the necessary qualifications to pursue the presidency. Additionally, he recalled the numerous instances when the Wiper leader had supported his own presidential aspirations.
Nevertheless, the leader of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party urged for patience, stating that he remains actively engaged in politics.
“What is the problem if Kalonzo is the candidate? I did not say Kalonzo could not be a candidate. I just said we came from far away with Kalonzo. He supported me, and I can also support him. I did not say I have quit politics. When I quit, I will come out and say it,” Raila said.
He highlighted that all co-principals within the opposition coalitions have aspirations for the presidency. However, Azimio la Umoja will ultimately choose one candidate at the appropriate juncture.
“We have Eugene Wamalwa, Wycliffe Oparanya, George Wajackoyah, and Martha Karua; all of them want the same thing, but we shall only have one candidate,” he said.
