Raila reveals why he is not thinking about the 2027 General Election Now
Raila Odinga, the leader of the ODM party, expressed in a recent exclusive interview with Citizen TV that he is currently not contemplating the 2027 General Election.
He emphasized that with the election being four years away, it is premature to engage in campaign considerations.
Raila further asserted that participating in the 2027 election would be futile unless the reforms advocated by the opposition, such as the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and adherence to the Political Parties Act, are implemented.
“We are still concerned with what happened in 2022. Unless we resolve it properly, it will be useless for anybody to run in 2027. Unless we really sort out properly that mess we had, to have a proper electoral commission that can preside over an election and give you real results,” Raila said.
In response to questions about his previous statement suggesting support for Kalonzo Musyoka in the 2027 presidential race, Raila Odinga clarified that he did not officially endorse the former vice president.
Instead, he explained that his remarks were an acknowledgment of Kalonzo’s steadfast support for his own presidential aspirations over the past decade.
Raila characterized Kalonzo as a reliable individual who has consistently championed what is just and right.
He clarified that his positive comments were prompted by a response to President William Ruto’s statements.
“I didn’t say I will support Kalonzo Musyoka, I acknowledged Kalonzo as a trustworthy person , someone you can trust who has stood with us through thick and thin. I was responding to Ruto when I said Kalonzo is enough,” Raila added.
He provided clarification by stating that the Azimio la Umoja team remains united, and when the appropriate moment arrives, they will collectively decide on the candidate who will carry the presidential flag for the team.
