Raila’s Former Aide Dumps ODM, Joins UDA Party
Former aide to Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga, Silas Jakakimba, has given his allegiance to the United Democratic Party (UDA), led by President William Ruto, from the ODM Party.
Jakakimba was received by UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malalah at the party headquarters in Nairobi on Tuesday, March 26.
Malalah conveyed her conviction that Jakakimba will play a pivotal role in expanding the UDA Party’s national influence and promoting its objectives.
“Jakakimba brings with him a wealth of experience, having served as a long-standing aide to former Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga. His decision to align himself with the UDA Party is testament to our commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive political landscape in Kenya,” said Malalah.
The UDA SG implored members and supporters of the UDA party to accept Jakakimba and work alongside him.
Jakakimba, for his part, stated that UDA membership validates the party’s increasing support in Nyanza and throughout the nation.
After 19 years of service to Raila, he remarked that it is crucial to maintain a continuous allegiance to democratic principles.
“It is necessary that moving forward, all democrats agree that it is more important and urgent, to remain eternally loyal to democratic ideals and attendant principles of strong and accountable governance. That is the space where I am today, politically,” said Jakakimba.
Additionally, the former aide to Raila praised President Ruto for endorsing the former prime minister’s candidature for the position of chairperson of the African Union Council.
Jakakimba added that he voluntarily joined the ruling party and was available for any party-related assignment.
In March 2023, Jakakimba severed ties with Raila subsequent to her daughter Winnie Odinga insulting him.
He tendered his resignation as the legal adviser to Governor Gladys Wanga of Homa Bay in July 2023.
