Rigathi Gachagua ask Kamba leaders to fix their politics by ditching the Opposition
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua urged Kamba leaders to address their political stance by moving away from the Opposition.
Gachagua, speaking at AIC Zombe in Kitui East on Sunday, emphasized that despite the community’s longstanding support for opposition leader Raila Odinga, tangible benefits have not materialized.
The Deputy President called upon Kamba leaders involved in the Opposition to demonstrate respect for the community by actively engaging in developmental initiatives, such as contributing to the progress of schools and churches.
“Fix your politics, you cannot follow a man who takes you nowhere forever. You have been following the Opposition leader (Raila Odinga) for many years but he humiliated your community leader (Kalonzo Musyoka) in the 2022 General Election by subjecting him to an interview for the running mate slot. You do not humiliate a whole community by interviewing their leader for a running mate position,” he said.
The Deputy President asserted that it is high time for the Kamba community to awaken and cease enduring humiliation.
Gachagua criticized Raila for extending an invitation to Kalonzo for a running mate position, considering that Raila had already made a commitment to someone else for the same role.
“That humiliation that was given to this community in the last election was too much. How do you take a leader of an entire community to an interview to humiliate him in front of the whole world? He is somebody you know, he has been with you all his life and you know his credentials and he already knew the outcome,” he said.
“Let us respect communities, especially a community that has supported you for five elections. Accord it respect and participate in its development affairs.”
Leading up to the presidential elections on August 9, 2022, Raila Odinga chose Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua as his running mate.
Gachagua pointed out that despite the longstanding support of the Kamba community for the Opposition, the government is prepared to back the community’s development initiatives.
He criticized the Opposition for appointing Kalonzo to head the National Dialogue Committee and subsequently rejecting the results of the process.
“The other day Kalonzo was given the job of chairing the dialogue committee with National Assembly Majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah and they have refused the report to shame him,” he said.
Gachagua was accompanied by a delegation that included Cabinet Secretary Peninah Malonza from the Ministry of EAC, ASALS, and Regional Development, Principal Secretary Teresiah Mbaika from the State Department of Devolution, as well as Members of Parliament Nimrod Mbai (Kitui East), Rachael Nyamai (Kitui South), Mejja MejjaDonk Benjamin Gathiru (Embakasi Central), Zaheer Jhanda (Nyaribari Chache), Kivai Kagesi (Vihiga), Japheth Nyakundi (Kitutu Chache), and Members of the County Assembly led by the area Ward Representative Laban Malinga, among other leaders.
