Ruto Issues New Directive to CS Namwamba on WRC Safari Rally
The potential extension of the World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally from a three-day sporting event to a five-day duration is being considered by the government.
During the inauguration of the 2024 WRC Safari Rally in Nairobi, President William Ruto instructed the Sports Ministry to implement the plan.
The chief executive advised Ababu Namwamba, the Secretary of the sports Cabinet, to collaborate with the International Automobile Federation (FIA) in order to prolong the duration of the event by an additional two days.
“I think it is time to consider the request by drivers to return the rally to the five days it used to be,” commented the head of state.
The President expressed that the administration was enthusiastic about using the potential presented by the WRC Safari Rally in order to stimulate economic expansion.
Ruto asserts that the rally’s widespread media coverage would bolster the country’s global image and repute.
He observed that the occurrence will not alone draw tourists to the nation, but also induce investors, so infusing billions of shillings into the economy and broadening prospects for numerous individuals.
“This will provide a major boost to our economy, increasing incomes for local businesses, and direct and indirect jobs, and attracting local and foreign tourism investment,” Ruto stated.
The head of state acknowledged that the administration had undertaken sufficient measures to ensure the successful execution of the event, scheduled to commence on March 28 and conclude on March 31.
Ruto urged Kenyans to attend the event in big numbers, emphasising the assurance of security throughout.
“I take this opportunity to assure every participant that every measure has been taken by relevant government agencies to ensure that the Safari rally is safe and secure,” the head of state assured Kenyans.
Kenya has already received numerous overseas participation for the highly anticipated event.
