Ruto’s Aide Farouk Kibet Tasks Kimani Ichung’wah Following Fertiliser Scandal
Farouk Kibet, President William Ruto’s assistant, wants Kikuyu MP and National Assembly majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah to oversee the investigation into the fake fertiliser scam.
The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) recently revealed that NCPB stores were stockpiling bags of substandard fertiliser.
The quality assurance organisation went ahead and revoked the standardisation marks of the enterprises that supplied the bogus farm input.
Farouk reacted to the discovery by calling for the suppliers’ punishment, tasked the Kikuyu MP with spearheading the process.
“The government issued fertilisers under the subsidy programme but there are cartels selling fertiliser laced with soil. We want the police to arrest those suppliers. This goes to MP Ichung’wah,” said Farouk.
This happened just days after President Ruto warned providers supplying phoney seeds and fertilisers to farmers that the government would take action against them.
The Head of State stated that security officers have already detained those who are taking advantage of the discounted fertiliser plan to sell counterfeit fertilisers to naïve Kenyans.
“We are also going to ensure that those who sell fake seeds of fake fertilisers face the music that they deserve. Just today we have arrested some of the characters who want to take advantage of our fertilizer supply and programme and we have many more in court because we must eliminate corruption,” Ruto added.
He also blamed the paucity of discounted fertiliser on the ongoing violence in the Red Sea, which has delayed deliveries to Kenya.
