Senator Joyce Korir’s Bodyguard Arrested after Businessman Is Carjacked
The bodyguard of nominated senator Joyce Korir has been arrested in connection with a Bureti carjacking and robbery.
The officer and a colleague from Kapenguria Police Station were arrested following an incident in which a merchant was robbed of KSh 156,000.
Constable Chamdany Kipkirui of Parliament Police Station and Constable Kipyegon Ngetich were detained while awaiting identification from the complainant.
“The two officers and another member of the public were arrested and detained at Litein Police Station pending further interrogation and identification by the complainant and arraignment,” the police said as reported by Nairobi News.
Wesley Kimngeno Tonui, a businessman, stated that he was driving from his friend’s house when two cars blocked his path.
Tonui stated that seven guys, three of them were armed with weapons, disembarked from the trucks and identified themselves as police officers.
They confiscated their phones before forcing them into one of the trucks and driving them to Bomet.
The men arrived at a petrol station, when their assailants offered him his phone to pay for fuel. He took advantage of the opportunity to disable the vehicle by using the auto tracker cellphone application.
Tonui, in the second vehicle, was driven to Mau Forest and told to transfer all of his money from his bank account.
He deducted KSh 131,000 from his account and asked another KSh 25,000 from his relatives, who agreed to assist him.
He was then brought to an M-Pesa ATM and forced to withdraw cash before being commanded to board a motorcycle to Litein.
