Senator Ole Kina, Governor Ntutu exchange barbs infront of President Ruto over Kilgoris skirmishes
County Senator Ledama Ole Kina and Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu of Narok clashed over disputes between two factions in Kilgoris.
Amidst President William Ruto’s presence at the interdenominational Thanksgiving service for Tourism PS John Ololtua in Keiyan, the two individuals engaged in a verbal altercation.
Ole Kina was the first individual to criticise the county government, asserting that the leaders are failing to adequately promote reconciliation between the Isiria and Irwa Shinkishu lineages, which are at odds.
Additionally, the ODM senator asserted that certain present and former leaders are responsible for the clashes by inciting violence and using President Ruto’s name.
“People should stop using the President’s name wrongly that he wants that land, that is false because the president means well for the country,’’ Ole Kina said.
Ole Kina demanded that the local leaders cease inciting the populace regarding the land, alleging that the instigation was orchestrated by senior officials.
“We know that there are leaders here, both former and current who are inciting our people. They have just stopped for days because they knew the president was coming here,’’ Ole Kina said.
“Governments will come and go but land and the communities will remain.’’
In response to Ole Kina’s declarations, Ole Ntutu refuted the claim that the county is not making sufficient efforts to resolve the conflicts, asserting that an elder-led report was complete.
“It is not true that nothing is happening. Both the national and the county governments have done a lot. A report about the said 30 acres is ready and we shall soon have a meeting to solve the issue,’’ Ole Ntutu said.
Senator Ole Kina, who had initially urged the president to combat corruption among governors with ruthlessness, was met with retaliation from the governor, who claimed the senator was ignorant.
“Sometimes come from Nairobi and find out what is happening on the ground before speaking to issues you do not know. Unfortunately, this is the first time I am hearing you talk about that land,’’ Ole Ntutu said.
During his address, President Ruto urged church leaders, politicians, and elders to convene and devise an enduring resolution to the inter-clan conflicts occurring in Kilgoris.
According to him, elders and local leadership are in a stronger position to resolve the minor disputes that are inciting hostilities between the two communities.
“I ask elders, leaders from here, county government and church leaders to sit down so that we can deal with the problem so that we focus on development without any fights,’’ Ruto said.
A new sub-county will be established in Keiyan to bolster security, the president added, once all administrative matters are resolved.
