Storm as Residents Storm Governor Barchok’s Office Demanding His Resignation
On Saturday evening, citizens of Bomet forcefully entered Governor Hillary Barchok’s office to call for his resignation.
The angry locals forcefully entered the county offices and insisted that the Governor resign due to what they deemed as a deficiency in County development.
Despite breaking the premises, the residents did not find the governor, causing them to leave after chanting and demanding his removal.
This occurrence transpired shortly after the residents subjected Barchok to a series of verbal abuse during President William Ruto’s visit to the County.
The heckling is said to be the culmination of supremacy conflicts between Governor Barchok’s followers and Senator Hillary Sigei.
Earlier, during President William Ruto’s development visit, residents shouted down the Governor, denying him the opportunity to speak as he approached the podium.
The citizens were calmed only after the President intervened. Ruto appeared irritated by the heckling that has grown common at his rallies in Kenya.
To that end, Ruto warned locals against heckling and politicians from hiring teenagers to disrupt their opponents during rallies.
He also reminded the citizens that they had elected the politicians and that it would be preferable if they voted them out during the elections because they were responsible for putting them in office in the first place.
“I don’t want this behaviour in meetings. You are the ones electing these leaders; the MCAs, MPs and even the governor. If someone is not working please wait for them during the elections. At the moment we are in a meeting,” stated the president.
In a recent instance witnessed this week in Kericho County, residents heckled their governor, Eric Mutai, denying him the opportunity to speak at the gathering.
Furthermore, a few weeks before, Kiambu locals staged a similar ruckus against Kimani Ichung’wah, prompting Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to intervene and request that the residents remain silent.
