Take Action – MP Marianne Kitany asks President William Ruto to Fire His Ex-Husband Cs Linturi
The Aldai Legislator Marianne Keitany has demanded that President William Ruto undertake radical measures, including the possibility of dismissing her ex-husband Mithika Linturi.
Thursday morning, the lawmaker was summoned to K24 TV’s morning programme to discuss a variety of topics when the matter of counterfeit fertiliser surfaced.
At the outset, she posited that it was regrettable that cartels were deceiving farmers through the packaging and sale of sand and surplus urea masquerading as fertiliser authorised by the state subsidy programme.
“For me, it is economic sabotage because if this farmer is not going to grow maize in the next seven years because of someone trying to get rich by adding some stones and more urea than is required,” she explained.
Joel Chacha, the presenter of the programme, interjected before she could complete her thought: “Should President William Ruto show Mithika Linturi the door?”
Subsequently, the Member of Parliament challenged the Head of State to render a decision that he considered appropriate in safeguarding the interests of the producers.
“I think the President should lead from the front on this particular issue because fertiliser has been his running call and us within UDA and the Kenya Kwanza Government have actually lagged behind because we have seen the fruits,” she stated.
“He needs to take action, whatever action that is required of him.”
A lawsuit had previously surrounded the former couple regarding the proprietorship of their mansion in Runda, Nairobi County.
Kitany’s 2023 lawsuit, which sought to halt Linturi’s eviction from the premises, was dismissed by the court.
Early this March, Africa Uncensored exposed a company that extracted soil, repurposed it as fertiliser, and subsequently sold it to farmers through an investigation.
According to interviews conducted with several farmers, the counterfeit fertiliser had developed a toxic effect on the soil and impeded the development of plants.
The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) recalled all fertiliser brands distributed by the company in retaliation for the investigation.
Esther Ngari, managing director of KEBS, stated at the time that examinations of 59 samples revealed that each product did not satisfy the required quality standards.
