‘There is vibrancy, happiness, and hope in the air’ – Kidero heaps praise on Ruto regime
Ex-Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero commended President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government and expressed his admiration during an interview with K24 TV on December 13, 2023.
Kidero criticized politicians for spreading negativity to unfairly portray the current administration.
“I think there is vibrancy in the air, happiness, and hope in the air despite some politicians and people who are in leadership preaching doom and gloom. The celebrations yesterday show there is a new dawn for Kenya as a republic,” Kidero said.
Despite the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) signaling ongoing inflation risks, the inflation rate for November 2023 held steady at 6.8%, just a slight decrease from 6.9% in October.
In November, food inflation remained high at 7.6%, slightly down from 7.8% in October 2023. The prices of various vegetables, including onions, tomatoes, and carrots, stayed elevated due to decreased supply.
Fuel inflation saw an increase to 15.5% in November, up from 14.8% in October.
However, there was a modest decline in non-food non-fuel (NFNF) inflation, which decreased to 3.3% in November from 3.6% in October.
Painful taxes
During the 60th Madaraka Day celebrations in Kenya, President William Ruto justified the government’s impactful tax measures, asserting that these actions played a crucial role in alleviating Kenya from a burdensome debt situation.
“The greatness and patriotic devotion of the people of Kenya have been on display during the past year. Together, we have made the right choices, sometimes taking very difficult and painful decisions, to steer Kenya back from the edge of the catastrophic cliff of debt distress, and move our nation in a new direction,” Ruto said.
“There is every reason to believe that without serious sacrifices and hard work over the past year, the crises, threats, and challenges in the global economic and geopolitical environment confronting us would have overwhelmed us, as indeed, it has many countries.”
