Twist as CS Turns Down Ruto Official’s Appointee Days After President Nominated Her for Another Govt Role
On Friday, Mining Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya revoked Jessica Gakinya’s membership in the Kenya Fisheries Service’s Board of Directors.
The CS published a notice in the Gazette appointing Shukran Gure to succeed Gakinya. Gure was formerly the Woman Representative for Garissa.
“The Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs appoints Shukran Gure to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Fisheries Service, for three years, with effect from March 15, 2024. The appointment of Jessica Gakinya is revoked,” read part of the notice.
Former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya appointed Gakinya to a three-year term beginning in May 2022.
A few days after President William Ruto nominated Gakinya to serve as Kenya’s ambassador to Rabat, Morocco, she was rescinded.
Gakinya, should her nomination be sanctioned, would resume diplomatic relations between Kenya and Morocco subsequent to the inauguration of Kenya’s newly established embassy in the North African nation.
On March 8, in addition to designating Gakinya, Ruto delegated a number of additional ambassadors.
Former Communication Authority Director General Ezra Chiloba, who will be representing Kenya in Los Angeles as its envoy, was included on the list.
In addition to Gakinya, a number of other appointments were rescinded by President Ruto and other government officials.
The appointment of Halima Yussuf Mucheke as the Chairperson of the Board of the Tourism Regulatory Authority was revoked by the Head of State.
Additionally, ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo revoked Valentine Khaminwa’s membership in the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication’s Council.
Further, Francis Chachu Ganya was dismissed from his position as a member of the Kenya Wildlife Service Board by Tourism CS Alfred Mutua.
In a similar fashion, Trade CS Rebecca Miano rescinded Peter Munyiri Maina’s designation as National Standards Council Chairman.
The designation of Anthony Muruiki Munyiri as the Chairman of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) was rescinded by Labour CS Florence Bore.
