UDA Announces Dates For Grassroots Elections, Constitutes Party Organs
The grassroots elections of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party are scheduled to take place in four distinct phases, the party announced.
UDA Chairperson Cecily Mbarire informed the media on Tuesday, April 2 at the Party headquarters in Nairobi that the first phase of grassroots elections in Nairobi, Narok, West Pokot, Busia, Homa Bay, and Garissa Counties will be held on April 26, 2024.
Mombasa, Uasin Gishu, Nyandarua, Tharaka Nithi, Machakos, Kisii, Bungoma, Siaya, Taita Taveta, Wajir, Tana River, Kwale, and Marsabit Counties will participate in Phase Two of the elections on June 22, 2024.
Kiambu, Embu, Kericho, Meru, Migori, Kakamega, Nyamira, Kitui, Elgeyo Marakwet, Samburu, Kajiado, Mndera, Kilifi, Muranga, and Lamu Counties will participate in the third phase on August 10, 2024.
“Phase four will be conducted on August 24, 2024, in the following counties; Nakuru, Bomet, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Nandi, Baringo, Turkana, Laikipia, Trans Nzoia Kisumu, Vihiga, and Makueni,” Mbarire stated.
In order to ensure fairness and impartiality, the elections will be administered electronically, according to the governor of Embu.
As soon as the grassroots elections are concluded, the Party intends to proceed with county and national elections by December 2024.
Concurrently, the National Steering Committee of the UDA appointed Atony Mwaura to replace Veronica Kiberenge as chairperson of the national elections commission. Lydia Munika, Linda Kiome, Jimmy Kaindi, Mary Mutina, and Halake Dida are all members of the board.
The Electoral Disputes Resolutions Committee was also established by the NSE, with Joy Mudivo serving as chair and Adrian Kamotho providing assistance.
Members will include Zipporah Karimi, Hellen Makone, Vyone Cheropkae, Dancan Ojwang, and Isaac Kabria, in addition to Babra Japan and Achiji Joseph.
Furthermore, the party reconstituted the committee for internal resolutions, which Rebecca Tonkei presided over. Hassan Omar, Leah Manyarkei, Joshua Ongera, Samuel Kariuki, Robert Theuri, and Ronaldo Shako are the members.
