UDA lawmakers warn Raila of losing AUC chairmanship position if he doesn’t quite local politics
A faction of UDA MPs has cautioned Raila Odinga, the head of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party, regarding his aspirations for the 2027 presidential election.
Senator Samson Cherargei, speaking in Embu, urged the ODM leader to make a decision between the presidency of the African Union Commission and the 2027 elections.
Cherargei suggests that the former prime minister should make a decision on his involvement in Kenyan politics.
He said that the opposition leader should step aside from the AU position if he intends to participate in the 2027 elections under the Kenya Kwanza regime.
“There is no way one can be campaigning for the presidency and at the same time for an AU seat; it’s either one and if our brother needs the presidency to compete with William Ruto, he should also tell us we are ready,” Cherargei said.
Mbeere North MP Geoffrey Ruku asserted that the former prime minister was running for two seats, which he argued may potentially undermine the endeavours of those seeking his African Union seat.
Ruku stated that the government is exerting significant effort and allocating substantial resources towards supporting Raila’s candidature.
Therefore, he should refrain from displaying any behaviours that indicate his lack of commitment to the AU bid.
