UDA MP Stumbles on Koskei’s Cabinet Chairmanship Mystery
During a recent appearance on a breakfast TV show, Tetu MP Geoffrey Wandeto, representing the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), faced scrutiny over his views on the hierarchy of public servants and Cabinet Secretaries.
The host, Sam Gituku, questioned Wandeto about Head of Public Service Felix Koskei chairing Cabinet meetings, traditionally reserved for the president and deputy president.
Wandeto defended President William Ruto’s silence on issues like the doctors’ strike, citing the competence of his Cabinet and Principal Secretaries.
The discussion intensified when Uasin Gishu woman representative Gladys Shollei intervened to support Wandeto.
Gituku challenged Wandeto’s assertion that Koskei was the secretary to the Cabinet, to which Shollei and Gituku disagreed, stating Koskei’s position didn’t hold that title.
Despite the disagreement, Wandeto persisted, claiming Koskei’s role as head of civil service gave him authority over ministerial issues, placing him on par with Cabinet Secretaries in representing the government.
Gituku expressed disbelief at this comparison, prompting Wandeto to avoid directly addressing the question, emphasizing he didn’t want to delve into who held a higher position.
Gituku redirected the conversation to Koskei’s involvement in chairing cabinet meetings during the health ministry’s industrial action. Wandeto evaded a direct response, opting not to engage in the discussion about Koskei’s role.
