UDA Politician Dies in Grisly Accident

Godfrey Mapesa, who ran for the Lumakanda Ward post in the 2022 general election, lost his life in an early morning accident on April 14.

According to Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, a fellow United Democratic Alliance (UDA) politician, Mapesa was traveling in a personal car when the accident occurred. The crash happened at the Mwamba area in Lugari, Kakamega County.

Details surrounding the accident were still scanty at the time of publishing this article. It remains unclear if Mapesa was the sole fatality in the incident.


Mapesa, who attempted to vie for the Lumakanda MCA seat in 2022 on a UDA ticket but lost to the current sitting MCA, Benard Wanyonyi Mulama Bokanda. Bokanda, along with other regional leaders, mourned the fallen politician.

He described Mapesa as a vibrant leader whose death would be a blow to the entire Luhya community. Bokanda expressed his condolences on his official social media handles, stating, “We as Lumakanda Ward people have lost. Rest in Peace Brother, friend, and colleague.”

Khalwale also expressed his grief over the young politician’s death, stating that it was difficult to come to terms with it. He extended his condolences to the people of Lumakanda ward, Mapesa’s family, colleagues, and friends.

The death of the MCA aspirant follows a tragic accident where a police officer lost his life in the same area of Mwamba on April 11. The officer was reportedly riding a motorcycle when a trailer crashed into him from behind. The officer, who was on annual leave, met his demise in the accident.

Furthermore, another police officer passed away in another accident on Saturday, April 13, along the Marsabit-Moyale Highway. The vehicle veered off the highway, rolling multiple times before coming to a stop in a nearby thicket in the Kambi Nyoka area.
