UDA SG Cleophas Malalah Responds to Banning UDA Politicians From Being Interviewed Alongside Sifuna
On Saturday, March 16, Cleophas Malalah, the Secretary General of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), denied reports of prohibiting lawmakers from his party, including Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, from participating in media interviews.
The previous Senator from Kakamega highlighted a press release that was being circulated on various social media platforms, asserting that he had issued the purported directive in his role as Secretary General.
“Ignore the circulation and consider it as fake,” he stated.
The fabricated news statement alleged that media organisations colluded to portray UDA politicians as intellectually impaired.
The crux of the issue lies in the concept that Sifuna frequently presents herself as more intellectually inclined when compared to UDA MPs in interviews and talk programmes.
“To avoid further embarrassing episodes, the party is now pulling the plug on the appearance of its members alongside Senator Sifuna in any show regardless of the media house hosting it,” read part of the release.
Based on the official statement, the politicians were advised to verify with the media organisations whether Sifuna was included in any television programmes to which they were extended invitations. If Sifuna was indeed included, it was recommended that they decline the invitation.
The directive was purportedly aligned with the presenting beliefs of President William Ruto in a less conspicuous manner.
“This decision is occasioned by the desires of the party to project the ideologies of H.E. William Ruto in a way that minimises embarrassment and humiliation to the party and its leadership,” read part of the release.
Kenyans have already mocked UDA MPs who are overshadowed by Senator Sifuna when they are confronted with intricate inquiries about the new government.
In February, Sifuna engaged in a confrontation with Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana, who is aligned with UDA, following Sifuna’s accusation of Ruto’s dishonesty and constant dissemination of false statements.
Sifuna rejected all efforts by his counterpart to cease referring to Ruto as a liar during the live television interview.
“Sifuna should respect people. You cannot say the president is telling lies. If people are older than you per the Pokomo customs,” Mungatana stated to which Sifuna responded, “Ruto is neither a Pokomo nor an elder.”
