Martha Karua, the co-principal of Azimio La Umoja, characterized the administration led by William Ruto as a rebellious regime.
The leader of NARC Kenya highlighted several actions undertaken by the present government, asserting its failure, particularly in neglecting the people’s opinions and responding appropriately.
The former Gichugu Member of Parliament also commented on the national reconciliation discussions and their ensuing findings, attributing the lack of attention to public preferences to Kenya Kwanza.
“When one shows contempt for the Constitution, the law, and the views of the majority, that is a rogue regime.
“If you look at the public participation in the Finance Act and the NADCO talks, how much of what we heard from the public was put in the report? I blame the Kenya Kwanza regime for its failure to adhere to what the people wanted,” Karua said during an interview with a local TV station.
Drawing a parallel between Ruto’s government and Daniel Moi’s, Martha Karua asserted that the current administration is performing more poorly, particularly in its approach to upholding the law.
“During Moi’s era, it was way better because, if you remember, when he wooed opposition members of Parliament and they defected, they would lose their seats, and we would go back to the by-election.
“This is the first time we have a regime that is full of impunity, refuses to adhere to the law, and yet wants to amend it,” she added.
The opposition leader criticized Ruto’s appointments, with the former Justice Minister contending that a significant number of appointees did not meet the standards outlined in Chapter Six of the Constitution.
“The people whom the Kenya Kwanza regime has put in charge in various places are people who would not have qualified under Chapter Six.
“They appointed unsuitable people, and they cleaned them when they were sitting on the chair or attempted to whitewash them. If KRA is missing its targets, one wonders whether corruption and mismanagement have permeated it,” Karua concluded.
